Uzbek referee Valentin Kovalenko will officiate the match between Bahrain and Iran in 2022 World Cup qualification campaign.
The match has been scheduled for Tuesday at Bahrain national Stadium in Riffa.
An international official since 2002, the 44-year-old ref has officiated in three AFC Asian cup in a row. He also refereed 2012 AFC Cup final.
Iran won both previous matches against Hong Kong and Cambodia and sit at the top of the group table and Bahrain are third with 4 points from 2 matches.
Two countries have had famous encounters in World Cup qualifying campaigns. In 2002 World Cup qualifiers, Bahrain beat Iran and sent Ciro Bralzovic’s men to play off against Republic of Ireland.
But four years later, Iran won 1-0 over Bahrain and secured the place at 2006 World Cup in Germany.
