The 23-year-old Korean did not need much time to put his name on the scoreboard. In his UEFA Champions League debut against Genk, Hwang recorded one goal and two assists.

The Korean international assisted on the team’s second goal scored by Erling Braut Haland on 34 minutes, followed by his first-ever goal in UEFA Champions League two minutes later.

With his goal, he became the third South Korean player who has scored in the UEFA Champions League, after the ex-Manchester United legend Park Ji-sung and Spurs’ star Son Heung-min.

In the 45th minute, the Korean forward helped complete the 19-year-old Norweigian striker’s hat trick with another assist. This left another mark in Korea’s football history, as Hwang became the first Korean player who was involved in three goals in one UEFA Champions League match.

The Austrian champion thrashed Genk 6-2.

His team Red Bull Salzburg is in the same group as Genk, Napoli as well as Liverpool. The team will face the English giants on 3rd October, and Napoli on 24th.
