Vietnamese international defender Doan Van Hau has signed for SC Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie on a one-year loan deal, per this report from Fox Sports Asia.
Despite being only 20 years old, Van Hau has established himself as the first-choice left wing-back for the Vietnamese national team and is also comfortable filling in at center-back.
One of the younger players in Vietnam’s AFF Cup winning squad, he has been seen as a smart investment. Having reportedly attracted interest from Thailand and potentially Japan and Korea, the move comes as a surprise and demonstrates his potential and ambition.
He becomes the second player of Vietnam’s ‘Golden Generation’ to move to a European club after Nguyen Cong Phuong made a move to Sint-Truidense in the Belgian first division.
Van Hau is expected to travel to the Netherlands for a medical and to complete his contract, before joining up with the National Team for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Thailand.
