Former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has signed for Chinese side Qingdao Huanghai, according to multiple reports.
Qingdao Huanghai currently sits on top of the China League One, the national second division, and are looking to become a Super League side next season. Upon arriving in Qingdao, Toure will join the likes of former West Ham and Henan Jianye striker Ricardo Vaz Te, and ex-Guangzhou Evergrande forward Cléo.
Toure is expected to replace club captain and Barcelona academy graduate Joan Verdú on the foreign player roster.
Since 2015, Qingdao Huanghai have been coached by former Barcelona academy coach Jordi Vinyals, and have fallen just short of promotion to the Super League in each of his seasons at the club.
Meanwhile, Yaya Toure has been out of professional football since an unsuccessful three-month spell at Olympiacos ranging from September to December 2018. Despite his potential lack of match fitness, the League One leaders hope that he can add something extra to their promotion fight and finally get them over the line.
Toure is best known for his time at Manchester City, where he played 230 games and won three Premier League titles. He is revered as one of the club’s greatest ever players.
