Chonburi FC legend Pipob On-Mo ended a remarkable 12-year stint at the club over the past weekend, as the club honored one of their all-time greats with a memorable testimonial match.
Pipob, who scored 108 goals for Chonburi from 404 appearances from 2006 to 2018, is rightly remembered as one of the greatest players to ever wear the Sharks’ kit. Fans came out in numbers to leave their parting wishes.
The testimonial match bought together a squad of footballing icons from years past, including the likes Therdsak Chaiman, Kiatisuk Senamuang, and Totchtawan Sripan.
“For those us who were around at the time, it was fantastic to see the 2007 title winning side reunited,” says Dale Farrington, who runs Chonburi’s independent English language website, in this article he wrote about Pipob’s final match. “What a great team we had then and what a joy it was to be able to watch them recreate a bit of the old magic from the year that our little club changed the course of domestic football in this country, forever.”
After the game ended in a 6-6 draw, the former Shark’s captain went on to thank the fans, the management, and his fellow teammates for his time at the club.
“It had been a fantastic occasion and the perfect send off to someone who can rightly be referred to as a legend,” Farrington claimed, adding that “it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever experienced in a football ground and something that will always stay with me.”
