AFC Asian Cup – Vietnam vs Iran Match Preview

Vietnam

Strengths – After the first match, Vietnam will be confident about the movement between players. The team can play with high speed and can cause problems for Iran’s defence, which lacks speed and acceleration.

Weaknesses – The concentration of this Vietnam team is not good. Some of the defenders were unable to concentrate for the entirety of the match and may get some fouls in the dangerous areas. The Golden Dragon’s also don’t have much experience playing competitively at this level.

Player to Watch (with explanation) – Nguyen Cong Phuong

By scoring a goal and creating a situation that forced Iraq’s defence into own goal in the first match, Cong Phuong proved that he will be the key player for Vietnam team against Iran. His speed, technique and eye for goal will be crucial for Vietnam.

Iran

Strengths Iran is arguably the best team in Asia now. They easily overcame Yemen 5-0 in the first game, and are incredibly strong compared with other teams in Group D. Even if Vietnam sit back in a defensive posture, Iran have shown their ability to score from range, which could hurt the Golden Dragons in this match.

Weaknesses – It will be hard to find the weaknesses of this Iran team compared to other sides on the continent. The only possible one is the lack of mobility of their center-backs, as they may back speed in some situations.

Player to Watch (with explanation) – Saman Ghoddos

The former Sweden national team player only came off the bench in the match against Yemen, but he still managed to score a fine goal Iran. His shooting ability will be a valuable asset for Team Melli in this match, as he looked like one of the most dangerous players on the pitch last time out.

Prediction: Vietnam 1-3 Iran
