Philippines 1-2 Vietnam – The View from Vietnam

After an impressive away victory in Bacolod against the Philippines, Vietnam are the favourites to progress to the 2018 AFF Cup final. Football Tribe Vietnam’s Tran Tien analyses the game, explaining the positives and negatives of the performance in a familiar format.

Final Score: Philippines 1-2 Vietnam

Football Tribe Man Of The Match: Phan Van Duc

Right Approach

Coach Park Hang-seo chose the right way to approach the game with high-pressing right from the start. It caused many problems for the Philippines defence and gave the visitors an opening goal after just 11 minutes.

Phan Van Duc Proved His Worth

Phan Van Duc proved why he has been selected in the starting XI over Cong Phuong and Van Quyet. Aside from scoring his side's second goal, his energy, speed and technical skill caused many problems for Azkals's defence.

The Philippines' Rough Play

Philippines approached the game with a very abrasive attitude. They were ready to take many dangerous tackles to stop the Vietnam's attack. In the first half, many Vietnamese midfielders were lucky to escape without serious injuries.

Wasted Chances

For yet another time during this AFF Cup campaign, Vietnam's attack missed many chances to score. In the 2nd half, Cong Phuong and Duc Chinh had many chances to kill the tie off, but they missed on all occasions.

Vietnam's Defensive Problems Begin

After not conceding any goals in the group stage, Vietnam's defence has faced many difficulties against the speed and strength of the Azkals' attack. If the hosts took full advantage of these chances, they would have scored more than one goal.
