2018 AFF Cup – Cambodia vs Malaysia Match Preview

Malaysia

Strengths: Many players in the side will be fresh, and Tan Cheng Hoe will be able to play his full strength team. The side’s attacking talents surely stand out as being particularly potent, and could be crucial in winning this game.

Weaknesses: The side’s youthfulness may be it’s major drawback. Many players are under the age of 23, and are yet to even have consistent game time at a senior level. This issue is particularly pronounced in the midfield, where the inexperience and lack of depth may cause trouble for Malaysia.

Player to watch – Safawi Rasid

Safawi Rasid is the side’s most successful player this year. At the age of 21, he has made a name for himself with excellent performances with both the club and the country. He is very brave for a young player, blessed with great speed and an excellent eye for goal.

Cambodia

Strengths: The appointment of Japanese football legend Keisuke Honda has generated excitement in the country, and the experience and leadership he brings to the table make his side a bit of a wild card. Cambodia is a team that can create a surprise.

Weaknesses: However, their coach may also be their biggest weakness. The former Japanese international hasn’t had much time with his new side, and has his attention divided between this role and his commitments to A-League side Melbourne Victory, where he is currently contracted as a player.

Player to watch – Thierry Chantha Bin

Thierry Chantha Bin plays in the Malaysia Super League with Terengganu FC, and will be potentially playing against friends and teammates during this game. He is a focused midfielder, capable of reading matches and is likely to have an advantage when it comes to knowing the Malaysia team’s players.

Prediction: Malaysia will win by a 3 goal margin.
