K League 1 Recap: Super rookie becomes a savior

2. The Best Rookie

Many newbies received the spotlight in this round. Among them, Cho Young-Wook was even more outstanding.

Though Cho has proven himself in youth teams, FC Seoul’s slump gave him few opportunities only. However, as Seoul desperately needed a chance to flip the script, head coach Hwang Seon-hong decided to take the risk and let Cho play.

This decision was right. Throughout the match, Cho, who was born in 1999, led Seoul’s attack, breaking through Daegu FC’s defences.

This young forward was involved in goals too. On 12 minutes, Cho rounded Daegu’s defenders and passed the ball to Evandro who then scored an opener.

In the 79th minute, Cho made a left-footed cross, which was deflected by Daegu’s defender Kim Jin-hyeok and found the net.

Cho’s performance did not only lead the team’s victory but also excited fans who were unhappy with Seoul’s current form.
