Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Josep Gombau has admitted that his first season in charge was “not good enough”, as the club failed to qualify for the A-League finals for only the second time in their history.
The Wanderers suffered a soul-crushing 3-2 defeat to fifth-placed Adelaide United. The result allowed Brisbane Roar to secured the sixth spot and last finals place as they scored a huge victory at Perth Glory.
The Spanish coach was appointed last year on a three-year contract, and the Wanderers was winless in his first five games in charge, and they had just seven victories in 22 games under Josep Gombau.
“We need to make a review of the season and as a club move forward, I know it’s disappointing for everybody,” Gombau said post-match.
“After that, we need to start to work to prepare for next season,” he added.
