Thailand aim for win over Philippines to earn direct ticket to 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Thailand are on the verge of earning a ticket to the next year’s World Cup following a 6-1 win over hosts Jordan in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup on Monday.

Now they need only one point against the Philippines, who lost 3-0 to China on Monday, in their final Group A game today.

However, a draw is not enough. Thai coach Nuengruthai Srathongvian is looking for a victory to make sure her side can win a berth in the top 4 to qualify for World Cup for the second time.

“In the next game, we need more focus. In the match against Jordan, we made many mistakes even winning 6-1,” Nuengruthai said.

“We must improve our attacking strength to win the match, so that we can guarantee a place in the 2019 World Cup,” she added.
