“The Ugly Duckling” Ko Moo-yeol celebrates his 200th match with a goal

Ko Moo-yeol finally found his place.

Having started his career at Pohang Steelers in 2011, the 27-year-old midfielder recorded 35 goals and 17 assists in 158 games during the five seasons. His performance helped him secure a place at the national team as well.

However, this “ugly duckling” did not meet fans’ expectation at Jeonbuk, with one goal and two assists in two seasons. Ko joined the military team Asan, which turned out to be a good decision as he became a “swan.”

In the match between Asan Mugunghwa and Bucheon 1995, Ko led the game as an attacking midfielder. He seized the opportunity from Bucheon defender’s clearing mistake and scored the fourth goal of the team in the 90th minute. With this, Bucheon were defeated after having won five straight games.

This made him become the top scorer of the team, and more importantly, helped him celebrate his 200th game in K League as well with a goal.
