Debutants Malaysia U-23 have made history as they stunned Saudi Arabia 1-0 to seal a place in the AFC U-23 Championship quarter-finals.
Despite being superior in possession with around 30 percent, Malaysia who took the lead with a goal of Daniel Amier Norhisham in the 28th minute.
In the remaining time, the Malaysian defense stood firm against the aggressive attack from the opponents.
With this striking victory, Ong Kim Swee’s side finished second with four points behind table-toppers Iraq, who earned a 1-0 win over Jordan on the same day.
Malaysia will play the winners of Group D, comprising Australia, South Korea, Vietnam and Syria, on 20 January.
