Former Newcastle United midfielder Danny Guthrie has agreed to move to the Indonesia’s Liga 1, having signed for Mitra Kukar.
The 30-year-old will be the second high-profile signing for Naga Mekes, after last season the club signed ex-Liverpool star Mohamed Sissoko.
“He has arrived in Jakarta and will do the medical test tomorrow (Thursday). He will join our team during the training centre program in Johor, Malaysia,” Endri Erawan, CEO of Mitra Kukar told reporters.
Guthrie, who came through the Manchester United and Liverpool academy, made more than 200 appearances in the English football mainly for Newcastle in the Premier League from 2008 to 2012.
He left Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season after his club were relegated from the Championship and has now opted to move to Indonesia with Mitra Kukar.
