Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian have dismissed reports they are interested in poaching Javier Mascherano from Barcelona.
Mascherano’s future at Barcelona is expected to be resolved in the next few weeks as the Argentinian is entering his final 18 months on current contract.
Rumours in Spain reported that Tianjin Quanjian have offered a contract to the 33-year-old defender, but the CSL outfit denied and insisted that the player is too old for them.
“Those rumours are untrue. We have not entertained the idea of buying Mascherano at this point,” a spokesperson for Tianjin Quanjian told Tianjin Today Evening News.
“We will aim to get better results next season and Mascherano is too old to fit in at our current plan.”
Mascherano has spent seven years at the Nou Camp but has fallen down the ranks at the Catalan giants, after he just made 10 appearances in this season.
