Saudi Arabia Football Federation (SAFF) reportedly contacted Bert van Marwijk to return as the national team coach but the Dutch turned down the role, various media outlet said.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Van Marwijk said: “We did not agree two months ago because we could not meet a number of requirements regarding the composition of staff. I have been approached tonight and have filed the same requirements. The union does not want to meet that again. Then it is simple for me.
“I only want to start this assignment if I think we can achieve success at the World Cup. It does not make sense in this way. “
Van Marwijk guided the Green Falcons through qualification for the 2018 World Cup in September but resigned within days after a disagreement with the SAFF.
The former Netherlands national team head coach was immediately replaced by Edgardo Bauza, however, the Argentine was sacked on Wednesday following poor performances in five friendly games.
