Australia head coach Ange Postecoglou resigns

Ange Postecoglou has stood down as Australia’s head coach after deciding not to continue in the post until the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

“After a great deal of thought and soul-searching, I’ve decided that the journey for me ends as Socceroos coach,” Postecoglou said in the press conference on Wednesday, as quoted by ABC.

“As I’ve said many times, it’s been the biggest privilege of my life and probably not the ending I had envisaged when we started, but at the same time, knowing it’s the right time for me and the right decision.”

Postecoglou took over his post in 2013 and led the Socceroos to Rio’s 2016 World Cup, followed by an Asian Cup triumph on home soil early in 2015.
