Malaysia football legend Wan Zawawi dies aged 68

Malaysia football legend Wan Zawawi Wan Yusof died in Kuantan today at the age of 68, local media reported.

He reached the peak of his career securing Olympic qualification by beating South Korea in Seoul in 1971

enjoyed his finest moments including securing Olympic qualification by beating South Korea in Seoul in 1971. In the following year, he even scored in Malaysia’s 3-0 win over the United States in Munich Olympic football game.

In 1974, Wan Zawawi and his side made the history by winning an Asian Games bronze medal in Teheran in 1974.

Besides the 1974 Asian Games bronze, Wan Zawawi also won two SEAP Games gold medals in 1971 and 1975 and featured in Malaysia’s victorious Merdeka Tournament campaigns in 1971 and 1974.
