Fadhli Shas appointed as national team captain for Malaysia in AFC Asian Cup qualifier

Centre-back Fadhli Shas will serve as the captain of Malaysia in tonight’s Asian Cup qualifying Group B match against North Korea.

Fadhli replaces Safiq Rahim, who received a one-match ban for his red card against Hong Kong on 10 October. Safiq will return to play in the second match of Malaysia’s crucial qualifier against North Korea next week.

“Fadhli is my choice and I believe he will do a great job,” said coach Nelo Vingada on Friday, as quoted by the New Straits Times.

Fadhli is making his return to the national team after a year. The Johor Darul Ta’zim defender has made 32 appearances for The Harimau.
