Malaysia qualify for AFC U-19 Championship for the first time in 11 years

Malaysia U-19 have qualified for the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship final after Saudi Arabia beat Yemen 2-1 in a Group D match on Thursday.

Coach Bojan Hodak and his team had to wait until the Saudi Arabia and Yemen game to be over to finish as the fifth-best group runners-up.

This is the first time in 11 years Malaysia have joined the final round of the U-19 tournament since 2006.

The five best runner-ups grab their spots at the 16-team finals, which will take place in Indonesia next October.

The 16 teams that have qualified for the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship: Indonesia (qualified as hosts), UAE, Tajikistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Korea Republic, China, Vietnam, Japan and Australia (qualified as group winners), Iraq, Thailand, DPR Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia (qualified as the five best runner-ups).
