Iran knocked out of U-17 World Cup after Spain defeat

Iran’s impressive run in the FIFA U-17 World Cup came to an end after the 3-1 defeat against Spain in the quarter-final on Sunday.

Title favorites Spain completely dominated the match as their exhibition of tiki-taka playing seemed to be too good for Iran.

Captain Abel Ruiz gave Spain the lead in the 13th minute before Sergio Gomez and Ferran Torres sealed the win in the 60th and 67th minute respectively.

Substitute Saeid Karimi reduced the margin for Iran in the 70th minute but the damage had already been done.

Spain will now meet African champions Mali in the semifinals on Wednesday.
