Indonesian supporter dies after mass brawl at stadium

One Persita Tangerang supporter was reported to have died because of the mass brawl between the supporters at Mini Persikabo Stadium during the Liga 2 against PSMS Medan on Wednesday.

The riots broke out shortly after the referee blew the whistle marking the end of the game, in which PSMS enjoyed a 1-0 victory. Persita supporters were reportedly invading the pitch and provoking PSMS supporters.

Several media outlets reported that the victim, Banu Rusman, suffered a severe head injury following the attack from the opponents’ supporters and died in a hospital in Jakarta on Thursday.

“We hope there will be no more casualties and incidents, the violent conducted yesterday must be thoroughly investigated !! Because football is to entertain the community and supporters are part of a club,” Persita wrote on their official Instagram.

“We urge to remain calm and not to be provoked by irresponsible parties. We must remain compact and wish the best for the victims of yesterday’s incident.”
