Former Vietnam forward Le Huynh Duc: Vietnam lack top class strikers

Former Vietnam international Le Huynh Duc expressed his disappointment after striker Nguyen Anh Duc has been recalled to the national squad for the Asian Cup qualifier against Cambodia on 10 October.

Anh Duc has been given a chance when caretaker Mai Duc Chung announced the 26-man squad on Monday. It has been the first time since 2014 since the 32-year-old last played for the national outfit. He was left out of the Golden Stars’ squad due to personal issues.

The Becamex Binh Duong striker is currently V.League’s top-scorer among Vietnamese players.

Despite the impressive performance of Anh Duc at top-flight V-League, Huynh Duc claimed that the return of an almost-forgotten striker to the national team has shown the lack of top-class Vietnamese strikers.

“I’m concerned that there hasn’t been so many good strikers like Anh Duc. Vietnam always have to face difficulties because of this shortcoming,” Huynh Duc said in a press conference on Thursday, as quoted by Vietnamnet.

Huynh Duc, who is now in charge of the coaching post at SHB Da Nang, pointed out that the V-League clubs’ favoritism for foreign strikers had been the reason to blame.
