Andre Villas-Boas gets eight-match ban for mocking referee

Shanghai SIPG head coach Andre Villas-Boas has been banned for eight Chinese Super League games making a mocking gesture toward the referee.

The 39-year-old Portuguese tactician mocked Shi Zhenlu by an offending gesture of counting money after the referee refused to give a penalty in his team 1-0 away victory over Beijing Guoan on Friday.

The suspension means Villas-Boas will spend eight CSL games on the stands and he is also set to miss the rest of the season.

Moreover, the former Porto, Chelsea and Zenit St. Petersburg manager was also handed a $6,000 fine due to his inappropriate behaviour.

SIPG currently sit in second place of CSL table this season with 54 points, four points behind title-holder Guangzhou Evergrande with four matches remaining.
