Thailand FA president confirms joint bid to host 2034 World Cup

Football Association of Thailand (FAT) president Somyot Poompunmuang has confirmed the joint bid of his organization and Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to host 2034 World Cup.

“It’s true that we are considering a joint bid to host the 2034 World Cup with the PSSI,” Somyot told media on Wednesday, as quoted by the Bangkok Post.

“Although the standard of football stadiums in Thailand cannot be compared with those in Indonesia, I believe that when we officially make a joint bid we would get funds [from the government] to build stadiums that meet Fifa’s standard.”

To date, no other country has confirmed or submitted a bid for the 2034 World Cup yet.

If successful, it will be the third time that Asia plays host to a World Cup after South Korea-Japan in 2002 and Qatar in 2022.
