Uzbekistan sack Samvel Babayan after World Cup qualification failure

The Uzbekiskan Football Federation (UFF) have announced that Samvel Babayan has been sacked as head coach of the senior national team.

Babayan and his coaching staff were released from their duty following a failure in the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 46-year-old Armenian tactician had been in charge since June 2015 after replacing former head coach Mirjalol Qosimov.

Uzbekistan failed to reach final round of World Cup in Rusia next year after placing fourth in Group B of Asia’s third round qualifying stage.
