Despite controlling most of the game, Singapore only earned a point from the AFC Asian Cup qualification against Turkmenistan on Tuesday night.
A volley from Shakir Hamzah in the 63rd minute looked to secure Singapore the first victory in nine games, however, Turkmenistan’s Altymyrat Annadurdyyev stole two points away from the hosts eight minutes from time.
With this draw, Singapore remain bottom of Group E with two points after two draws and one loss.
After seeing his side throw away the lead in the qualifier, Singapore head coach V.Sundramoorthy alluded to his team’s lack of fitness.
“We tired faster than our opponents,” said the 51-year-old, who is still searching for his first competitive win as the Lions’ head coach, as quoted by The New Paper.
“We had chances to finish off the game. We should have scored the second goal and we would have been okay,” he added.
“The boys did well, but should have done better in the last quarter.”
