Coach Mai Duc Chung admits Vietnam were “lucky” to beat Cambodia

Vietnam caretaker Mai Duc Chung has admitted that a 2-1 win over Cambodia in the AFC Asian Cup qualification on Tuesday night was not easy.

“This game was very difficult for us since we had to play on the artificial turf. Our players have never experienced such kind of playground before. On the other hand, we have to play under the pressure of home team supporters,” Chung said in the post-match press conference, as quoted by VnExpress.net.

“I want to praise the spirits of our players as they managed in overcoming the extreme pressure to earn the win. This is the lucky win, but not so easy for us,” he added.

In Tuesday match, a late winner from Quang Hai gave Vietnam a hard-fought three points in Cambodia. This crucial victory edges the Golden Stars into the second spot in Group C, with two points behind table toppers Jordan.
