South Korea captain Ki Sung-Yeung could miss crucial Uzbekistan qualifier

South Korea captain Ki Sung-Yeung could be absent at the final 2018 World Cup qualification match against Uzbekistan in Tashkent on Tuesday.

Ki did not even make the bench in last Thursday’s 0-0 draw with Iran because he wasn’t fully fit following the knee surgery during a 3-2 loss in Qatar in June.

As reported by Yonhap News, head coach Shin Tae-yong said there was still a “fifty-fifty chance” that the Swansea City anchorman could be used against Uzbekistan.

The Taeguk Warriors still have chance of booking a place in Russia next summer. A win over Uzbekistan will send Shin and his men to the World Cup regardless of other results, but a draw or a loss means their fate will depend on the match between Syria and Iran.
