Watanya Wongopasi, manager of the Thailand U-22 team, could not hide her emotion after being crown the 2017 SEA Games title with a narrow 1-0 win over hosts Malaysia on Tuesday evening.
“I’m crying because I’m so happy with the gold medal that our team won. I don’t remember the last time I was in tears. We started the plan to win the gold medal since a year ago and today we finally won it,” Watanya told VnExpress reporters.
When asked about the most difficult game for Thailand on the race to defend their SEA Games title, the manager insisted her toughest rivals must be Myanmar.
“The most difficult match was against Myanmar in the semi-final. Their players are very tough and fast, so we have to fight back with the greatest efforts. We also had to struggle during the draw with Indonesia and the Timor Leste win.
We were under pressure by the media and supporters. But we overcame all of those pressure to easily earn a win over Vietnam and qualify for the group stage,” add Watanya.
