Vietnam national team caretaker Mai Duc Chung has announced his squad for the game against Cambodia in the third match of Group C in the 2019 Asian Cup qualification.
Coach Chung has called up 23 players, including 10 players who competed for the U-22 team at this year’s SEA Games in Malaysia.
Surprisingly, Mac Hong Quan has been recalled to the national team for the first time in almost one and a half year. The Czech-born was one of the first-choice strikers under the reign of former head coach Toshiya Miura, but his inconsistent performances in both national and club outfits left him out of the Golden Stars in Nguyen Huu Thang’s era.
Chung, who had just won a gold medal with the women’s squad a few days ago in Kuala Lumpur, was appointed as a caretaker for Vietnam men’s football national team following the resignation of Nguyen Huu Thang.
The players will join the training sessions on Tuesday in Hanoi in preparation for the qualifier. Currently, Vietnam are standing third in Group C behind Jordan and Cambodia, amassing two points from two draws with Afghanistan and Jordan.
