Australia announce venue for crucial World Cup qualifier against Thailand

Football Federation Australia (FFA) have officially announced the venue for their crucial 2018 World Cup Qualifier Group B match against Thailand at home on 5 September.

Melbourne’s AAMI Park, in which the capacity is just over 30,000, has been chosen by FFA as the venue for this crucial clash.

The Socceroos currently sit third in Group B with 16 points, one behind leaders Japan and on the same points as second-placed Saudi Arabia, who have a better goal difference.

Since the penultimate match is against Japan in Saitama on 31 August, head coach Ange Postecoglou is looking forward to beating the winless Thailand in Melbourne to seal one of the two automatic qualifying places to Russia next summer.

“The next two matches in this campaign are extremely important for us,” said Postecoglou on FFA website.

“We are focused on two strong performances beginning with the challenge in Japan.

“A capacity stadium in Melbourne supporting the team will be fantastic.”
