Teddy Sheringham appointed as head coach of Indian side Atletico de Kolkata

Former England and Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has been appointed as head coach of Indian Super League side Atletico de Kolkata.

The Indian club made the announcement on their official Twitter with a photo of Sheringham and a short statement which reads: “We give you our head coach for the 4th edition of the @IndSuperLeague, Teddy Sheringham!”

Sheringham, who won three Premier League titles and a Champions League with United, first took on the managerial role with League Two side Stevenage for eight months before leaving the club in February 2016.

The Kolkata-based side, owned by a consortium including Spanish club Atletico Madrid and former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, won the league title in 2014.

The Indian Super League season will start on 1 October with two new teams, forming an expanded 10-team league and running for five months.
