Madura United offer contract extension for Peter Odemwingie

According to reports from Indonesia, Madura United are open for a possible contract extension to Nigerian midfielder Peter Odemwingie.

Odemwingie joined the Indonesian club in March on a short-term deal until the end of this season. Providing nine goals and four assists, the Gabon striker helps Madura United climb to the second place in the Liga 1 table.

Explaining the club decision to extend the contract with marquee player Odemwingie, the corporate secretary of Madura United, Annisa Zhafarina, said: “Madura is getting a new major sponsor for the next season, and it is also the green light to immediately confirm the stay of Peter Odemwingie next season,” as quoted by Goal Indonesia.

The 35-year-old Odemwingie is the third former Premier League star to join the Indonesian league this year after ex-Chelsea Michael Essien and Carlton Cole signed for Indonesian champions Persib Bandung.
