Vietnam hold Jordan to a goalless draw

Vietnam remain unbeaten in the final round of 2019 Asian Cup qualifying after holding Jordan to a goalless draw at Thong Nhat Stadium on Tuesday.

Despite Jordan are considered to be the strongest rival in Group C, the home side made a significant start with the first real chance from a free-kick of captain Dinh Thanh Trung in the 24th minute.

Four minutes later, Jordan responded with a header from striker Hamza Al Dardour, however, Vietnam goalkeeper Dang Van Lam successfully turned away the opponents’ chance.

Lam was undeniably the hero of the Golden Stars in this game as the 23-year-old goalkeeper made a number of impressive blockings, especially when Saleh Rateb managed to come close to a breakthrough in the 88th minute.

After this draw over Jordan, Vietnam sinks to the third of the four-team Group C, behind Jordan and neighboring Cambodia.

Nevertheless, national team head coach Nguyen Huu Thang still expressed his satisfaction as his team could achieve a fine result to the group favorites, as quoted by online newspapers VnExpress.
