Cambodia head coach Leonardo Vitorino showed his gratitude to Prime Minister Hun Sen after his squad had stunned Afghanistan in the 2019 Asian Cup third round qualifier on Tuesday evening.
“I’d like to dedicate this win to the Prime Minister,” he said, as quoted by Khmer Times, “because even after our heavy defeat against Jordan he backed us. And I’d also like to thank the Federation for their belief.”
The Brazilian also attached this sensational win to his squad: “Today we won the match because of the players. We lost last week’s friendly [against Indonesia] and everyone was talking but we stayed quiet.”
While this all-important victory triggered wild celebrations at Olympic Stadium, it also helps Vitorino’s team to leapfrog Vietnam to the second place in Group C with three points, just one fewer than Jordan.
