Captain Mile Jedinak has been ruled out of Australia national team for Confederations Cup in Russia due to a groin injury.
Coach Ange Postecoglou decides to replace the 32-year-old midfielder by Austria-based anchorman James Jeggo, who has yet to make his international debut.
“Losing Mile is a blow as he’s not only an important member of the midfield but a great leader amongst the group,” Postecoglou said, as quoted by Herald Sun.
“He’s had a tough period since Christmas with his groin and we all agree it’s in the best long-term interests of Mile and the Socceroos that he has a break.”
The Australia squad leaves for Russia on Wednesday and will open their Confederations Cup campaign against Germany next Monday.
