Chinese Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning have confirmed the appointment of Fabio Capello as their new head coach on a 18-month deal.
The 70-year-old Italian tactician became the latest high-profile coach to move to China after Luis Felipe Scolari, Andre Villas-Boas, Gus Poyet and Felix Magath.
“The decision to sign Mr. Capello is made out of the club’s strategic development needs,” a club statement said.
“Apart from guiding Jiangsu Suning forward, he will also be tasked with bringing in the most advanced ideas and methods in club management, coaches training and youth development.
“Under his guidance, the Jiangsu football and even the Chinese football will make tremendous progress.”
Capello has been without a club since July 2015 after resigning from his duties as Russia’s head coach.
Jiangsu Suning but are struggling in the relegation zone of CSL this time around despite boasting their squad with high-profile names like Ramires and Alex Teixeira.
