SHB Danang’s Gaston Merlo granted Vietnamese citizenship

SHB Danang FC have announced that striker Gaston Merlo has officially become a Vietnamese citizen.

According to reports from Vietnam, Merlo has been successfully granted with Vietnamese citizenship on Monday. The Argentina-born striker will have a new Vietnamese name, Do Merlo, with his last name as a gratitude to SHB chairman Do Xuan Hien.

“Merlo is successfully granted with Vietnamese citizenship. All procedures have been completed. The only issue is that Melo has not owned an identity card. In the future, we will complete the procedures so Merlo can play as a Vietnamese citizen,” said Danang FC manager Bui Xuan Hoa, as quoted by The thao & Van hoa.

Gaston Merlo has scored 92 goals between 2008 and 2016 for Danang. Last season, his 24 goals in the domestic league helped the team finish third on the table, and the Argentinian striker won both the top scorer as well as the best player awards.
