Johor Darul Ta’zim have released a public statement denying their potential transfer for Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres.
The rumor has been floating around on social media in recent days, despite Torres’ continued involvement within Los Colcheneros’ first team.
But just as the JDT fans were starting to get excited, the Southern Tigers rushed out to stamp out the speculation.
“There has been a great deal of social media speculation that Fernando Torres will be joining JDT from Atletico Madrid in the next transfer window. Although the club is flattered to be linked to such big name players I can assure you that Torres will not be joining us,” said Alistair Edwards, JDT’s Sports Director.
“These type of stories, like many involving JDT, are just gossip, we are a small club and not rich as our competitors. We have a limited budget. As for now, our budget priority is for the JDT Academy and the development of the new stadium,” he added.
While Torres is clearly not coming to Malaysia, JDT fans are expecting their club to bring in big names when the second transfer window opens in a few days.
Kelantan’s Mohammed Ghaddar has been linked, though it remains to be seen if the Red Warriors can be talked into selling their prized asset.
