National team head coach Luis Milla has recently pointed out that while Indonesia’s Liga 1 is still some way behind the Spanish top division, the quality of the domestic league could be on par with the Spanish Second Division.
Milla offered this assessment after watching several Liga 1 games in the past few weeks.
“In the end, if we compare the level of the first Division [Liga 1] Indonesia [with Spain] you see it is equal to that of Division II [Spain],” Milla said to Goal Indonesia.
The 51-year-old said that Indonesian players could learn from more experienced players who have tested their levels in European leagues.
The players Milla could be referring to are the marquee players signed by Indonesian clubs in the past months.
“They [Indonesia] really think it’s important where you come from, what football country you are from, they value a person who comes from Spain and other European countries,” Milla said.
