AFC Cup: Felda crush Ceres, Tampines fall to late defeat

S.League outfit Tampines Rovers fell to a late 2-1 defeat lost to Hanoi FC in their Group G match of the AFC Cup played on Tuesday night.

The home side took the lead in 68th minute through a sliding finish Yasir Hanapi while the equalizer for Hanoi was scored by Nguyen Van Quyet from a tidy finish inside the box seven minutes later.

Pham Van Thanh grabbed the winner from a Hoang Vu Samson low cross in the stoppage time to hand Hanoi the crucial 2-1 victory.

In the earlier Group G clash, Felda United eased to victory against Ceres Negroes at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium.

Muhammad Syahid opened the score after just six minutes with a right-footed thunderbolt from outside the box. Felda doubled their lead in the 65th minute, courtesy of a brilliant strike from Muhammad Hadin.

Substitute Fazrul Hazli scored a third for Felda when he capitalised on a blunder from keeper Roland Muller.

These results see Hanoi go top the group after four games with eight points followed by Felda United and Ceres Negros on five. Tampines remain at the bottom on three points.

Meanwhile, Al Zawraa went to the top of Group A following their 3-0 rout of Al Jaish at the Al Khor SC Stadium in Qatar.

Mohannad Abdul-Raheem scored a brace in the second half while Alaa Ali also got a goal in between as the Iraqi side cruised to a win.

Ahmad Mousa Al Essawi scored a late winner that saw Al Ahli edge Al Suwaiq 2-1 in their match Group A match.

Tall Malick canceled out Yaseen Al Sheyadi’s opening goal in the 62nd minute to give the hosts a chance of turning things around, which they duly did.

Al Wehdat remain at the top of Group C despite sharing the spoils with Saham following their 1-1 draw in Muscat.

Finally, Al Muharraq and Nejmeh SC played out to a goalless draw at the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa. The point that hosts Al Muharraq earned pushed them into second place in Group C.
