Frank Bernhardt insisted that the news of his dismissal as Malaysia U-23 national team head coach did not come as a huge shock.
The 47-year-old German tactician, who was appointed by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in 2015, was sacked after he saw poor performance of his team in the Dubai Cup.
Bernhardt also revealed about his duty termination by the newly appointed FAM president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ) only through the media and wanted to hear further explanation.
“It’s correct, I heard that from the media. Personally, I’ve no information yet from FAM regarding this matter,” he told reporters. “I believe we will discuss this matter further and to clear some of the statement.
“This [termination] can happen when someone is appointed as the new president. When new people take over, they want to change or make a change and yes it can happen.
“The date of announcement may not be the right time but we cannot change anything. This is a situation I had to deal with.”
