Brisbane Roar, Western Sydney Wanderers thrashed in AFC Champions League

Brisbane Roar went down 6-0 to South Koreans Ulsan Hyundai, while Western Sydney Wanderers were beaten 5-1 by Shanghai SIPG.

In China, Shanghai SIPG’s Brazilian attacking duo Hulk and Oscar proved too much for the Wanderers to handle. The former Porto striker opened the score after just three minutes, and in the 17th minute, his compatriot Oscar doubled the lead with a clinical finish.

Western Sydney Wanderers pulled one back in the 20th minute through Mitch Nichols, but two goals in just three minutes from Ke Shi and Elkeson helped Shanghai SIPG to a comfortable 4-1 lead at half time.

The Australian side tried to shorten the disadvantage, but a goal from Lei Wu in the 75th minute condemned they to a 5-1 defeat away from home.

Mislav Orsic and In-Sung Kim each scored a brace to help Ulsan Hyundai to a 6-0 victory over Brisbane Roar, while Urawa Red Diamonds also defeated FC Seoul 5-2 at home.

Thai League club Muangthong United made history with a 2-1 victory over FIFA Club World Cup runners-up Kashima Antlers, thanks to goals from Theerathorn Bunmathan and Xisco. This is their first victory in the competition.
