32-year old Gareth Bale – who will be out of contract in June after spending nine years at the Bernabeu – rolled back the years nd spectacularly bagged a brace for Wales against Austria to book a place in the World Cup finals playoff against Scotland or Ukraine.
Former Sunderland striker Darren Bent believes Newcastle United should sign Gareth Bale this summer as the Real Madrid put on a stunning performance on Thursday night and scored his brace against Austria to book Wales a World Cup play-off seat.
Although Wales have not qualified for the competition since 1958, the Dragons will square off with either Scotland or Ukraine at the Millenium Stadium for a spot at the finals in Qatar. Bale is the Welsh nation’s all-time leading scorer with 38 goals and played a dominant role in the side that reached the semi-final at Euro 2016.
Unfortunately the Welsh dynamo’s form in recent seasons for La Liga giants Real Madrid has gone through a major nose-dive and resulting in him having a poor relationship with Los Blancos supporters – despite winning four Champions League trophies at the club.
Bale will no doubt be seeking new pastures when his contract runs out in June and talk has been circulating about him retiring at club level and only playing for Wales. This is where Bent – who played with the Galactico forward for two years at Spurs – firmly believes this is the opportune time for Newcastle to make a move.
“He is incredible, Gareth Bale, we have seen it time and time again,” he told talkSPORT.
“That’s a superstar signing they are looking for. I think they (Newcastle fans) would be happy with it.”
