Djibril Cisse issues call to Cristiano Ronaldo to join Marseille

Finally the momentum seems to be picking up some pace regarding the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo joining Marseille.

The topic has suddenly become the topic of football gossips in France, RMC Sport reports, prompting former Marseille striker Djibril Cisse to call for Ronaldo to sign for the Ligue 1 club. Cisse took to Twitter, calling on ‘friend’ Ronaldo to make Marseille his next move if he indeed really leaves Manchester United.

Ronaldo, 37, is generally expected to depart United before the transfer window closes soon, but as yet his destination has remained unclear all summer with all clubs in Europe so far not willing to open their doors to him.

A potential move to Marseille could be a great fit for the Portugal skipper, as the French club can offer him Champions League football after finishing as runners-up in Ligue 1 last season.

Cisse is optimistic his plea to Ronaldo to sign before the transfer deadline would resonate with the striker, as he also brought attention to the fact that in addition to being offered the opportunity he so eagerly sought to play in the Champions League, Marseille would also allow Ronaldo the chance to renew his fierce rivalry with Lionel Messi, who is now donning PSG colors in France and finally enjoying a new lease of life in the French capital.

If it were to happen, Ronaldo would be joining the team who have also just signed former United attacker Alexis Sanchez, and who are also on the verge of putting together the finishing touches to a loan move for United defender Eric Bailly.

Marseille’s incredibly passionate fanbase would no doubt love to celebrate Ronaldo’s star power, hoping the move would really put them back on the map, just as United had expected earlier when they brought him back to Old Trafford for a second tenure.

Ronaldo’s routes out of United are very limited, and so if an offer were to come in from Marseille, the wantaway star would probably have put it under serious consideration.
