A huffing ‘n puffing Reds diehard – after witnessing the team’s incredible almost four-year unbeaten run at Anfield ended by Burnley – claims a now ‘clueless’ Jurgen Klopp has taken Liverpool to the limits of his ability and should now depart as Reds manager.
That’s the no-frills, no-holds-barred version according to the fuming Liverpool fan, who phoned into The Sports Bar on Thursday night to call for the German boss to be replaced – angrily saying Klopp is now taking the Premier League champions ‘backwards’ instead.
It certainly looks at this juncture like things are going badly south for Klopp and Liverpool at the moment with the once indomitable Reds having now gone not only 4 games totally goal-less in the Premier League but to have their 68-game unbeaten home run in the league come to a stunning halt on Thursday as the German’s near ‘Invincibles’ suffered a 1-0 defeat to Burnley, courtesy of Ashley Barnes’ late penalty.
The Reds’ previous Premier League defeat at home came nearly four years ago, against Crystal Palace in April 2017.
The result also leaves the defending champions six points behind arch rivals Manchester United at the top of the league at the halfway point of the campaign.
Klopp had taken the dicey option of fielding a much-changed side against Burnley with Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri getting rare starts and resting Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, but the decision to field a weakened team backfired badly as he finally had to take full responsibility for being vanquished in a match he had himself claimed was ‘impossible to lose’.
But a fan seething with anger, David the Red, told talkSPORT a result like this has been coming after a series of poor performances throughout the season.
And he now declares it’s ‘the end’ for Klopp on Merseyside.
Klopp has rejected any suggestion he needs to rebuild his team, despite their patchy form this season and their current torrid run
“A few years ago I rang up when Liverpool were playing badly and I said Jurgen Klopp has to go,” said the caller.
“And okay, thanks for winning the Champions League, thanks for winning the Premier League, the Club World Cup and the Super Cup… but what happened to Liverpool when they lost to Aston Villa and now losing to Burnley at home, there’s no way back.
“Jurgen Klopp has taken Liverpool as far as he can. He’s taking them backwards now.
“He has got no Plan B, he’s selecting the wrong players from the start and I think they should go for [Massimiliano] Allegri or [Diego] Simeone.
“I don’t think Jurgen Klopp will win any more trophies.
“He could be manager for another ten years, but they won’t win any more trophies under Jurgen Klopp! He hasn’t got a clue any more.
“That was not a good line-up against Burnley and the substitutes were not very good either.
“When I heard that Shaqiri was going to start with Oxlade-Chamberlain, I thought, ‘oh no, we’re going to lose this one’.
“It’s the way Liverpool have been playing, against Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle, West Brom, that 7-2 defeat Aston Villa, and they lost at home in the Champions League to Atalanta. I know they beat them away, but they were beaten by them 2-0 at home.
“This has been on the cards.
“Jurgen Klopp can’t do it anymore and he’s getting frustrated. He’s worked his magic, but it’s the end for him now.”
