BRAZIL have announced their 23-man squad for the World Cup Russia 2018

Brazil manager Tite has announced his 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, despite the deadline for the final World Cup squads being 4 June with some of the big names failing to make the cut.

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is joined by Roma’s Alisson and Corinthian’s Cassio, while Valencia’s Neto failed to make it to the 23-man squad.

Manchester City’s Danilo and Corinthian’s Fagner were picked for the right-back department as Dani Alves missed out with a grievous knee injury during Paris Saint-Germain’s Coupe de France final victory, while Rafinha of Bayern Munich found himself left out of Tite’s World Cup plans.

In the left back department, Tite had a selection headache with but Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis has seen off competition from  Juventus left-back Alex Sandro and AS Monaco all-rounder Fabinho to join ranks with Real’s Marcelo.

In the coveted heart of the  Seleção’centre-back, PSG duo Marquinhos and Thiago Silva joined by Inter Milan’s Miranda and Gremio’s Pedro Geromel. While Chelsea’s David Luiz missed the bus, after falling off in Chelsea’s defensive pecking order under Antonio Conte.

Tite is known for tactical compactness and playing passing game much influenced by the European technical game rather than flair and skill of Brazilian game has selected a squad of players suited to technical aspects of modern day football. Real Madrid’s Casemiro and City’s Fernandinho has been selected for their midfield defensive duties and adding compactness to the midfield to suit the tactical needs of compact football Tite has been stressing upon.

Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho will be joined by Renato Augusto from Beijing Guoan as the two central playmakers while Chelsea’s Willian and Juventus’ Douglas Costa are joined by Shakhtar’s Taison as the wing technicians to support the forward line.

Upfront Neymar who is nearing completion of his injury will be joined by Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and City’s Gabriel Jesus to form a formidable attacking department but lack of a “big” target  man centre-forward, to help with the aerial battle if Brazil are chasing the game in the final minutes could be the missing link in Tite’s squad.

Barcelona’s new-boy Arthur, Fenerbahce’s Giuliano, Tottenham’s Lucas Moura and Bordeaux’s Malcolm are some of the players snubbed from the 23-man squad. Brazil has been drawn in Group E alongside Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia, and will start their World Cup campaign on 17 June against Switzerland.
