An S-League all-stars squad emerged victory in the Selangor friendly cup against Selangor XI made up entirely of players from PKNS FC, who earned their promotion to the Malaysian Super League this season.
Home United striker Khairul Nizam gave the Singapore side the lead early on with a well-placed header, and Tampines Rovers’ defender Shakir Hamzah doubled the lead just before half-time after finding the target from the edge of the box.
After the break, Selangor’s captain and Malaysia international Safee Sali was gifted a golden opportunity from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit, but his effort couldn’t quite reach his intended target.
Six minutes later, the match looked to be all over as Home United winger Faris Ramli converted a spot kick to make it 3-0.
However, Selangor clawed two back when Safee and Gonzalo Manuel Soto both scored, setting the stage for a tense final 15 minutes.
But there were no further goals and the Singapore XI were able to hold on for victory, their seventh since the friendly started in 2001.
