Liverpool moved one big step closer to winning the 2019-20 Premier League title with their emphatic 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
The league leaders returned to Anfield for the first time since the COVID-19 break, in a game which could’ve marked their Premier League victory had they managed to beat Everton on Sunday.
It took 22 minutes for the side to take the lead, when Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a perfectly-placed freekick beyond Wayne Hennessey.
Their second came courtesy of Mohammed Salah, who’s run was picked out perfectly by Fabinho, setting the Egyptian up for a tidy finish just before half-time.
The Brazilian midfielder then registered a goal of his own 15 minutes after the restart with a powerful shot from distance, before Sadio Mane scored to complete the 4-0 win.
This result leaves Liverpool 23 points ahead of Manchester City, who have only 24 points to play for. One more win for them, or one more mistake by the reigning champions, will give the Reds the title they have longed for.
Manchester City could make that crucial slip-up tonight at Stamford Bridge, where anything less than a win against Chelsea will officially and mathematically end the title race.
If Pep Guardiola’s men do emerge victorious tonight, it could then all come down to Liverpool’s visit to the Etihad Stadium on Friday, July 3rd.
